Adoring Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock and Tate Taylor Plan Tupperware Pioneer Biopic

As announced back in May, Sandy is really attached to headline the film based on Bob Kealing’s non-fiction book Tupperware Unsealed, a biopic on Brownie Wise, the marketing pioneer who created the Tupperware home party strategy that made the brand a household name and opened new professional avenues for women. Sony Pictures announced that Tate Taylor, director of The Help, will write and direct it.

Coming Soon – Though Brownie Wise is frequently remembered as the idealized 1950s housewife, she was in fact a groundbreaking businesswoman who built a social network through which other women could earn their own money and independence. The first woman ever featured on the cover of Business Week, Wise became a popular and famous figure during her time as a marketing executive for Tupperware. However, her own clashes with company founder Earl Tupper, and the circumstances surrounding her exit from the company, underscored the limits of the liberation movement she personified.

“As a writer-director, Tate has the rare and delicate ability to capture both the romanticism and restrictions of a time and place,” says Hannah Minghella, president of Production for the studio. “In this case 1950’s suburban America. His characters are both immediately recognizable while also uniquely iconic. Such was the magic of Brownie Wise. There is no one better than Sandy to play Brownie — they share a fierce bravery and independent spirit.”

“Sandy and I have been trying to work together for years,” adds Taylor. “Finally, I’m very excited to put Tupperware in her hands. This is a collaborative dream come true.”

The film was packaged by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films and Television, who brought the project to the studio. Joining them as producers are Tom Shelly of Steele Mill Productions and Taylor through his Wyolah Films. John Norris and Alex Young will serve as executive producers. Hannah Minghella and Andrea Giannetti will oversee the project for the studio.

Sandra to Play Brownie Wise in Tupperware Story

The Hollywood Reporter – Bullock is circling to star as trailblazing sales exec Brownie Wise in an untitled project detailing the rise of Tupperware that has The Help director Tate Taylor attached to direct.

David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV, whose credits range from The Fighter to The Muppets, are producing.

The producers put together the package over the course of several months and hope to find a home for it soon. The likely first stop would be Disney, where the company has its production deal.

The script, which Taylor wrote, is based on Tupperware Unsealed, the non-fiction book written by Bob Kealing. Taylor has met and discussed the project with Bullock, but although the actress has expressed a desire to do it, she is not formally attached.

Tupperware was originally developed by Earl Silas Tupper but took off in the 1950s when sales exec Wise came up with the idea of having Tupperware parties. Soon those get-togethers were sweeping the nation and Wise became as popular as the product she was selling and in 1954 she also became the first woman to appear on the cover of Business Week.

Wise, however, clashed with Tupper, who eventually pushed her out in 1958 and tried his best to erase her from the company records. She never recovered from the action and was an early casualty of the sexism wars that were beginning to be fought in post-World War II America.
