Stop worrying.

That’s what Sandra Bullock told students during an incredibly moving surprise commencement speech at Warren Easton Charter High School in New Orleans on Monday (May 19).

The actress — who was tasked with talking about what she would tell her younger self —
encouraged students to stop being scared of the unknown and raise the bar higher.

“The unknown we can’t do anything about,” said Bullock, who was honored at the 2013 People’s Choice as Favorite Humanitarian for her work with the school. “I don’t remember any of the times in my life where I worried. So, that’s a lot of time I couldn’t get back.”

That’s not the only bit of wisdom the Gravity star imparted. Bullock, who said she wanted to give students the same advice she shares with her four-year-old son, also stressed the importance of eating healthy and, of course, not picking your nose in public.

Raise the bar higher. It is noisy out there and for some reason, people want to see you fail. That’s not your problem, that is their problem. I only remember the moments where I tried beyond what I thought I could do and I do not remember the failures because I didn’t … Go find your joy. It’s what you’re going to remember in the end. It’s not the worry, it’s not the what-ifs. It’s the joy that stays with you.
