The actress’ world – and heart – just got a whole lot bigger with the adoption of her 3 1/2 year-old daughter Laila, a little girl from Louisiana who had been in foster care. The Oscar-winner’s 5-year-old son Louis, whom she adopted in 2010, “spearheaded this whole journey” says Bullock, 51. “I think I was ready for her before she even arrived, and he knew exactly what to do as a big brother.” So how does the star now define family? “Those who show up, who are safe, and love, and protect you,” she says. “My family looks nothing like I ever imagined it would. It’s better than I ever imagined.”
Scans of current People magazine issue, featuring Sandra and her beautiful family, are now added in our gallery.
Sandra is a mom again! The current issue of People magazine brings Sandra and her family on cover, revealing that she has adopted a daughter, 3½-year-old Laila (pronounced Lila), a little girl from Louisiana who had been in foster care.
The process of expanding her family began three years ago, with Louis helping to lead the way.
“Louis spearheaded this whole journey,” she says, and while the two siblings have since formed an inseparable bond, Bullock says the first stages of bringing Laila home required patience and plenty of reassurance.
“I knew she was scared, and all I wanted was for her to know Louis and I weren’t going anywhere,” she says of her daughter, who has brought “pink and glitter in the house mixed with Legos and Batmans.”
Check back later for scans and more photos. Congratulations for the beautiful family, Sandra!
I just read the whole People’s interview, and it’s really great! I don’t think I will be able to post scans here unfortunately, but you already can find some parts of the interview online.
1) What’s up with that necklace?
Sunny made that necklace for him… to represent all the kids.
2) Why did she decide to adopt an African-American baby?
I want him to know no limits on where he can go. I want him to experience all culture, nationalities, countries and people like I did. I want his mind to be open and free. We were raised that we are all the same. No one greater, smarter, more powerful. We are all equal. I would love for Louis to know that . He has a big, beautiful, diverse family. As long as he know he is loved and protected and given the opportunity to touch and see everything, then I will have done my job as a mama.
3) But did Sandra know about the Nazi stuff?
The photo shocked me and made me sad. This is not the man I married. This was stupid, this was ignorant. racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia, anything Nazi and a boatload of other things have no place in my life. And the man I married felt the same. This I hope Jesse will address one day, but that is not the world I live in or have ever lived in and have any tolerance for.
Just to remove any lingering doubts, Sandra also mentions that Louis had a bris:
A friend of ours helped arrange for a bris [Jewish circumcision ceremony] at the house, because we couldn’t go [to a hospital for the procedure]. The mohel [a person trained in the practice] came to us. You have never seen adults more panicked about what was about to happen to their son, but the celebration and the amount of love we felt and the pride in the little man whom we love so, so much became the greatest moment I have ever had in my life.

Is there a caption that me, as a mom, totally understand.
Milk dribbles down and gets stuck in the folds of his neck. Everytime I go in to nuzzle him, I smell rancid milk. It’s the best smell on earth – and I’ve had the great perfumes of the world.
Isn’t it beautiful?
Also, Sandra says in the interview that her career will need to wait for a bit. So forgot that news about her being busy with 4 new projects. She has a big one project for now, her little kid.
Sandra Bullock hasn’t just become an Oscar winner in 2010. She’s also become a mom, Hollywood’s unofficial best secret-keeper and, sadly, a divorcee.
The actress reveals her latest titles in the cover story of the new issue of People, on newsstands Friday. The front of the weekly shows her beaming with her new adopted son, Louis Bardot Bullock, and the confession that she and Jesse James are heading for divorce.
The adorable tot is 3 and 1/2 months old and the result of a four-year adoption process inspired by James’ daughter Sunny.
Louis was born in New Orleans, brought home quietly in January and named after Louis Armstrong because his proud mom heard “What a Wonderful World” in her head the moment she laid eyes on him.
“The first time I met Louis, it was like the whole outside world got quiet,” she says. “It was like he had always been a part of our lives.” Continue reading
