Sandra Bullock Talks Donald Trump, “Manipulation” in Political and Entertainment Industries

During Toronto International Film Festival, Our Brand Is Crisis star Sandra Bullock discussed the project and how her political consultant character would help GOP candidate Donald Trump.

While sitting down with her fellow castmembers, Bullock was questioned about what her character Jane Bodine would do to help sell Trump to the American public. “I don’t think Jane needs to sell Donald Trump,” Bullock said, adding “Doing just fine. I’m not that good. He’s doing just fine selling Donald.”

Bullock explained Bodine as “complex” and “troubled” while expanding on her personal story. “There’s nothing perfect about her. She’s complex. She’s troubled. She’s struggling,” Bullock said. “She’s dealing with some mental illness. She’s dealing with addiction. She’s dealing with life as most people are.”

While the actress said that Bodine is good at her career, that doesn’t necessarily she should be doing it.

Producer Grant Heslov commented about the similarities to the film and the current political scene in the U.S. “We didn’t really time this to come out now amidst of this huge election. It’s kind of great timing. All you have to do is look at what’s happening in the primary right now and it literally is a circus.”

The actress chimed in and said that the antics in the film don’t merely apply to the political world. “It’s in the entertainment business… the manipulation, the cynicism, the circus, all of it. It’s exactly the same. It’s about selling.”

“Our Brand is Crisis” Press Conference

Sandra attended today during the Toronto Film Festival a press conference for Our Brand is Crisis, joined by actress Zoe Kazan, director David Gordon Green, producers George Clooney and Grant Heslov. You can watch the press conference on the player above, also check pictures added in our gallery.

Reviews have been great for the film so far – also Variety is pointing that Calamity Jane Bodine is easily one of the best female roles of the last 10 years. Guardian also says that “Bullock must carry the film by herself. Handily, she manages the task effortlessly, and as a carefully orchestrated campaign to win her another Oscar, it’s a success. While the film is patchy, Bullock’s brand is confidently crisis-free.” Exciting much, huh?

“Our Brand Is Crisis” InStyle TIFF Portrait Studio

Friday afternoon, the cast of Our Brand Is Crisis stopped by InStyle TIFF studio, including Sandra Bullock, Zoe Kazan, Scott McNairy, Grant Heslov, and David Gordon Green.

“She is complicated, but she is also incredibly brilliant at what she does,” Bullock says of her character in the film–a movie about the use of American political campaign strategies in South America. “She is able to do what she does without her conscience stepping in up to a certain point, and you see what happens when that shift is made when someone gets in and allows her to see the repercussions and the ramifications of what she’s done and she has to look at that. You wonder is she going to look away or is she going to ignore as she always has and keep going through?

What’s up next for the star? Only time will tell! “It was two years before I found this [role] and it might be another two years before I find something else. I don’t know what I am looking for, but I am just looking to get into the car pool lane on time and not get fussed at,” says Bullock, who is mom to son Louis. “That is really my goal right now. If a good role comes along, that is icing on the cake.”
